"Are you really sure about this?" Denth called to Hikaru. Denth was a humanoid boy with bright lemon-yellow skin, his hair was a deep black he tied in a top knot on top of his head.
"Yes," Hikaru called back from the foot of the hill.
Denth sighed and shook his head, "Mollau is going to kill me..."
Then he pushed the giant boulder down the hill.
It rolled down, quickly gaining speed and with it, devastating energy. It was a huge boulder, easily 10 feet in diameter. The loud rumbling of stone crashing along earth was nearly as impressive as the shaking of the ground.
And Hikaru stood directly in its path.
With her heavy weights dragging at her limbs it would be difficult to dodge... if she had planned on dodging. Instead she planted her feet and held her hands at the ready. She was going to try and catch the boulder and stop it.
The huge stone crashed into Hikaru and she skidded back in the face of its inertia. She gritted her teeth, her feet digging deep grooves in the earth. But it was too much for her, and Hikaru was bowled over.
"OH CRAP!" Denth screamed from on top of the hill and then began scrabbling down as quickly as he could to check on Hikaru. But he tripped on the steep incline and tumbled down much like the boulder before him.
The Brenchian pushed himself to his hands and knees at the foot of the hill and spat out blades of blue grass. Then crawled quickly over to his stupid, STUPID, human friend.
"Hikaru?! Hikaru you okay?!?" he carefully looked with a slight wince... well she wasn't a bloody smear in the earth, so that was good.
Hikaru sat up and wiped her face with a scarred arm, "Yes."
She had reinforced her body with her ki, so the boulder hadn't crushed her completely. But the punishment from so much strength was still devastating. Her body ached and she had some nasty scrapes.
"Oh thank Vallano," Denth sighed in gratitude to his diety.
Hikaru stood up and dusted herself off, then began walking toward the boulder that had crashed into the mountain side behind her. She had chosen this location so that the boulder wouldn't bulldoze too far and damage anything else besides her.
"Where are you going?" Denth stood up, "What are you doing?!"
Hikaru began pushing the boulder, "Back up the hill."
"WHAT?!" Denth squawked incredulously, "YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT AGAIN?"
"Yes."
The young man scrabbled towards her, but kept back far enough to not be anywhere near the boulder in case Hikaru lost control of it, "Why?? I don't get it! Why can't you just spar with Sora or train like a NORMAL PERSON?!?"
"Sparring with Sora isn't the same," Hikaru grunted back.
"Uhm, yeah, you don't end up CRUSHED INTO THE GROUND!" he flailed his arms this time while squawking. He was doing a great impression of an earth chicken.
Hikaru didnt bother explaining how that was exactly the point. She needed to get tougher, and the only way to do that was to take devastating punishment, and survive it. It wasn't that Sora couldn't crush her, quite the contrary, its that he wouldn't. Friendly spars and intense training sessions were all well and good. But it wasn't what she needed to train her body.
Her enemies would hit hard. Hard enough to crush her like this boulder. And she needed to be ready.

Hikaru continued the light skip on her toes, bouncing lightly to keep her momentum going. She stepped in and let loose a flurry of punches. The air whiffed from the speed and pressure of her movements.
Sora had shown Hikaru some boxing techniques. She had been curious when he had mentioned that it had been a human martial art to begin with. Hikaru had little to no knowledge of her race's culture. She had been a part of the PTO her whole life. So the chance to learn something of her people greatly intruiged her.
Sora had been more than ecstatic to share his passion for his hobby with her. He had spoken so incredibly fast and wild that Hikaru had, had trouble following. It took Sora some time but he did manage to share with Hikaru some of the absolute basics.
Jab. Jab. Hook. Jab. Jab. Cross hook.
No. Faster. She needed to be faster.
It would have been a simple matter to take off the weights she'd been wearing. But that would be cheating. She needed to get this speed down with the weights. Hikaru wouldn't accept anything less.
Hikaru tightened her guard and began weaving her head in a defensive posture like Sora taught her. Then she dashed in and set about with another combination of punches. Her punches were sharp, and they were tight. But something was missing. They didnt make the same sound as Sora's.
Hikaru ended the sequence with one last punch. The attack had been so powerful, the wind pressure kicked up some of the blue grass in the field around her.
Sweat trickled down into Hikaru's eyes. She blinked and then wiped the sweat away with her weighted sweat band. Sweat covered her body in a light sheen from the work out.
Hikaru sighed and moved to the small pack she had brought with her. It contained enough food for her afternoon and evening meals, and several bottles of water. Hikaru took the first one and cracked the seal.
The water was so clean it was practically sweet. Hikaru took a grateful swig. She may be reckless in combat, risking injury. But she was a bit more responsible in her training. She took breaks, stayed hydrated, and was careful not to overwork herself.
...most of the time.
Hikaru screwed the cap back on, and then packed the water away. She then pulled out a timepiece. She couldn't measure the day by the movement of the suns. She hadn’t quite figured out Namekian time in relation to it. So Hikaru always kept a time piece with her. She had promised Mollau that she would come back to the village before the 3rd village shift. The equivalent of late evening for Namek.
He’d scold her until he was purple in the face if she wasn’t back by then. Mollau was still overly concerned for Hikaru’s health, even though she had been deemed fully healed. By himself no less! But he seemed to have grown to care for Hikaru and had taken her in as a sort of ward.
Hikaru no longer stayed in the healer’s hut. The place where the injured and infirm were taken. Where she herself had been originally taken. She now stayed with Mollau in his home. At least until she had settled into her own home.
Hikaru packed away the time piece and then shrugged on the pack. She shifted her shoulders making sure it settled comfortably, then she took off at a run.
One could never do too much cardio. It was the best way to keep up one’s stamina. Hikaru ran everyday, or barring that, she skipped rope. Skipping rope was an excellent way of doing cardio while remaining in one place.
Hikaru made her way to the nearest river bank. One with a more sandy shore line. There her toes sank deeper into the sand, and required extra strength to push off. It was a great way to train your toes, and to give yourself the slightest boost to your dashing speed.
And in combat even the slightest boost could make all the difference. Word Count: 698
