A beautiful rainbow sheen floated atop the river. The colors shifted under the sunlight with the movement of the river.
Unfortunately the source of such a beautiful shimmer were toxic chemicals that had been spilled into the river. Along with the chemical spill were the various bits of debris that floated along the river, and the heavier bits that sank to the bottom and choked it.
Half the village had gathered together and were at the river cleaning up the wreckage and waste. Word was that further up the river a Tuffle factory in one of the trade cities had exploded. The cause wasn’t currently known, though they claim it wasn’t from mechanical error.
But such an investigation would be up to others. For now the members of the smaller villages downstream could only work on damage control, and clean the aftermath.
Gastro, the huge bear of a Namekian with a gentle heart, was heading a crew that had developed a sort of large strainer. They skimmed this along the water to catch the loose and floating debris. When the skimmer was clogged with detritus they would go about fishing the trash free and piling them into carts to be hauled away for scrap and recycling at the nearest town.
Other groups were working on sifting through the mud and clay for the heavier pieces that had sunk to the bottom and were so easily strained free by Gastro’s sifter.
The truly biggest problem, however, came in the chemicals that were polluting the stream. These couldn’t be sifted or cleaned by hand. No, for this the Namekians needed help.
It seemed their best bet would be to talk to the Tuffles whos factory started this mess. At the very least they needed to take responsibility for it. Hikaru volunteered to fly to the city upstream and speak to the Tuffles there to get some help.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d be in the trade city upstream, so Hikaru packed a light collection of provisions into bag, and set along her way. Hikaru carefully gathered her ki, the grass around her swirling as if in a heavy wind, and then blasted into the sky.
She flew at a brisk pace, her ki a light halo around her that trailed in the wake of her flight. She was a human comet streaking through the Namekian skies. Hikaru skimmed low to the ground, darting in between trees and mountains. Even on this important errand she would find ways to train her skills.
It wasn’t long before Hikaru caught site of the factory. There was a large chunk off the side that seemed blasted through. She set down a bit away and then walked the rest of the way.
There were several different crews of various Tuffles, much like the Namekians back in the village. The industrious people were working with more advanced equipment however, and they were getting through the repairs quickly.
Hikaru made her way to the nearest Tuffle she saw, adjusting the weights on her wrists in case of a fight. She doubted it, but it was best to be prepared.
“Hey there, can I help you?” This Tuffle had darker than average skin. Closer to a mahogany brow. He had a shaved head and wore a scouter. His work clothes were a little worn and dirty, a testament to the hard days work.
“I’m from a village down stream. Near Tsuno’s village. Wreckage and debris from the accident has made its way down to us,” “Hikaru responded quietly.
The Tuffle blanched and then sighed tiredly, “We’ll try and send a crew down to clean it as soon as we can. We just have a lot of work to finish here.”
Hikaru raised a hand to stop him, “We’re cleaning it up alright on our own. We just need help with the chemical waste. Do you have any means we can use to purify the water?”
The man looked relieved. The Tuffles knew that the pollution and debris was their fault, and they would take responsibility. It was just a relief to have one less thing on their list.
“Yeah, sure thing,” he nodded and gestured for her to follow him back to the factory.
